Historical/Cultural Resources: Hurricanes Katrina and Rita did heavy damage to many historical and cultural resources in Texas and put tremendous stress on others. $9.7 million was funded to the City of Houston for costs associated with providing temporary sheltering operations at the Houston Astrodome, Reliant Center and Reliant Arena as a result of Hurricane Katrina. $1.3 million has been obligated for repairs to the Ford Park – Arena complex in Jefferson County. High winds and heavy rain from Hurricane Rita caused damage to the exhibition hall and arena facility. These repairs have allowed Jefferson County to continue to provide special events to the community. More than $26.3 million has been obligated (paid to the state) by FEMA to reimburse Public Assistance applicants for historical & cultural resources, especially in the Southeast Texas area.
