Fact Sheet FUNDING STATUS, LOUISIANA - HURRICANE RITA Public Assistance Funding for Parishes Affected by Hurricane Rita, Sept. 18, 2007 Total federal funds obligated: $515.6 million Some of this public assistance funding went into the following Hurricane Rita-generated projects: * Calcasieu Parish School Board – All 58 schools were operational within 60 days after the hurricane. FEMA has provided more than $17 million toward repairs. * Vermilion Parish Waterworks – FEMA has obligated more than $564,000 to repair the water distribution system for the Esther and Forked Island areas. The system serves 1,500 people. * Calcasieu Parish Law Enforcement Training Facility – Parish, municipal and state law enforcement agencies depend on this facility for training. FEMA has provided $461,000 to replace the building. (MORE) Hazard Mitigation Funding for Louisiana, Hurricane Rita, Sept. 18, 2007 Total Hazard Mitigation funds obligated: $632,369 Mitigation funding went into the following projects: * Calcasieu Parish – FEMA recently approved $519,869 in funding to acquire five residential repetitive loss structures. * Vermilion Parish – Funding totaling $112,000 has been obligated for Vermilion Parish to update its existing hazard mitigation plan. Individual Assistance Funding for Louisiana, Hurricane Rita, Sept. 18, 2007 Total Individual Assistance funding: $519.5 million Active Leases by Site Type * 34,282 Louisiana residents affected by Hurricane Rita have been provided with rental assistance.  * Louisiana residents affected by Hurricane Rita have received a total of $104,829,164 in Other Needs Assistance, which may include personal property, vehicle replacement, funeral, medical and dental assistance. * There are currently 5,128 households living in FEMA direct housing who were displaced by Hurricane Rita. * FEMA has identified over 6,000 available rental units across the state. Chart includes Acadia, Calcasieu, Cameron, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary and Vermilion parishes.
