Fact Sheet PUBLIC ASSISTANCE STATUS, CRIMINAL JUSTICE/PUBLIC SAFETY Public Assistance Funding for Criminal Justice/Public Safety and State Payout, Aug. 10, 2007 Total federal funds obligated: $165.2 million Some of this public assistance funding went into the following Criminal Justice/Public Safety projects: * Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Department - $83.9 million will fund an 800-bed temporary jail, a temporary kitchen facility and an intake processing center. * New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) - $130.9 million was obligated to NOPD projects, including temporary facilities such as substations, a forensics crime lab, the juvenile detention center and the NOPD headquarters. * New Orleans Fire Department - $15 million has funded temporary facilities and expedited equipment purchases for the New Orleans Fire Department. Fact Sheet PUBLIC ASSISTANCE STATUS, EDUCATION Public Assistance Funding for Education and State Payout, Aug. 10, 2007 Total federal funds obligated: $1.26 billion Some of this public assistance funding went into the following Education projects: * Recovery School District (RSD) - $277 million will fund temporary facilities and help repair or replace RSD-run schools in Orleans Parish. * Orleans Parish Public Schools - $60 million was obligated to bring these schools back to their pre-Katrina status. * Holy Cross – An expedited improved project option and $14.5 million in funding will help this schools rebuild at the former Cabrini site. Fact Sheet PUBLIC ASSISTANCE STATUS, HEALTH CARE AND RESEARCH Public Assistance Funding for Health Care and Research and State Payout, Aug. 10, 2007 Total federal funds obligated: $441.2 million Some of this public assistance funding went into the following Health Care and Research projects: * Charity Hospital Interim Services – Nearly $28 million was obligated to this hospital, whose Level 1 Trauma Facility has been reconfigured at the University Hospital location. * Touro Infirmary - $9 million went toward the restoration of this hospital, including updating and repairing the generator system. * Temporary Facilities – FEMA funding paid for temporary hospital facilities in Cameron Parish ($487,860) and Plaquemines Parish ($769,624).
