Fact Sheet FUNDING STATUS, LOUISIANA Public Assistance Funding for Louisiana and State Payout, Aug. 10, 2007 Total federal funds obligated: $5.0 billion *Includes administrative costs. Some of this public assistance funding went into the following Louisiana projects: * Criminal Justice/Public Safety - $165.2 million will be used to rebuild the state’s criminal justice system, including facilities owned and emergency work performed by the sheriff, police and fire departments. * Education - $1.26 billion will help restore K-12 and higher education schools throughout the state, thus providing repaired or replaced facilities for thousands of students to return to. * Health Care and Research – Temporary and permanent hospitals are just some of the buildings funded with the $441.2 million obligated toward health care and research. (MORE) Hazard Mitigation Funding for Louisiana, Aug. 20, 2007 Total federal funds obligated: $21.7 million Some of this mitigation funding went into the following projects: * St. Helena Parish – $1.1 million will upgrade or harden the Emergency Operations Center, the sheriff’s office and the Critical Access Hospital in St. Helena Parish. * Planning Grants – These grants will help numerous jurisdictions update or develop their hazard mitigation plans. Recent grants have been obligated to the University of New Orleans, the Audubon Commission, Louis Armstrong Airport and various parishes. Individual Assistance Funding for Louisiana, Aug. 20, 2007 Total Individual Assistance funding: $5.9 billion * 559,170 Louisiana residents have been provided with rental assistance. * Louisiana residents have received a total of $1,581,534,140 in Other Needs Assistance which may include personal property, vehicle replacement, funeral, medical, and dental assistance. * There are currently 42,945 households living in FEMA direct housing who were Louisiana residents prior to the hurricanes. * FEMA has identified over 6,000 available rental units across the state. # # # Joint Information Center, TRO New Orleans, LA
