Fact Sheet HURRICANE RITA FUNDING STATUS, CALCASIEU PARISH Public Assistance Funding for Calcasieu Parish and State Payout, Sept. 18, 2007 Total federal funds obligated: $81.0 million Some of this public assistance funding went into the following Calcasieu Parish projects: * Chennault International Airport Authority – $1.7 million funded the repair of an airport hanger. This hanger is the largest of seven at the airport, which serves as a maintenance facility. * Calcasieu Parish Law Enforcement Training Facility – Parish, municipal and state law enforcement agencies depend on this facility for training. FEMA has provided $461,000 to replace the building. * Calcasieu Parish School Board – All 58 schools were operational within 60 days after the hurricane. FEMA has provided more than $17 million toward repairs. (MORE) Hazard Mitigation Funding for Calcasieu Parish, Sept. 18, 2007 Total Hazard Mitigation funds obligated: $519,869 Acquisition is an effective way to move people and property away from high-risk areas and reduce disaster losses. Mitigation funding went into the following projects: * Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently approved $84,842 in funding to acquire a single repetitive loss structure in Calcasieu Parish. * FEMA also approved additional funding totaling $435,026 to acquire four residential properties in Calcasieu Parish. Individual Assistance Funding for Calcasieu Parish, Sept. 18, 2007 Total Individual Assistance funding: $233.6 million Active Leases in Calcasieu Parish by Site Type * 83,786 Calcasieu Parish residents have been provided with rental assistance. * Residents have received a total of $29.8 million in Other Needs Assistance, which may include money for personal property, vehicle replacement, funeral, medical and dental assistance. * There are currently 2,423 households living in FEMA direct housing who were Calcasieu Parish residents prior to the hurricanes. * 500 available rental units have been identified within Calcasieu Parish.
