FEMA Releases National Disaster Recovery Framework FEMA, along with many other federal partners, has officially released the National Disaster Recovery Framework. The National Disaster Recovery Framework outlines how community recovery is supported and organized on a national level. It builds on scalable, flexible, and adaptable coordinating structures to align key roles and responsibilities, linking local, state, tribal, private sector, voluntary, faith-based and community organizations that all play vital roles in recovery. The National Disaster Recovery Framework identifies recovery support functions that have a designated federal coordinating agency to provide leadership, coordination and oversight to support state, tribal and local communities in their recovery. The Framework contains guidance for developing measures of successful recovery based on the state and community’s recovery objectives, effective decision-making and coordination, and the integration of community recovery planning processes. As part of the rollout of the National Disaster Recovery Framework, FEMA leadership along with key stakeholders will hold a forum in each of FEMA’s ten regions to discuss the intent and application of the guidance. Cities and dates will be announced at a later date. Visit National Disaster Recovery Framework for more information. Plan for Pet Disaster Needs .. Do not leave your pets behind if you evacuate .. It was a day full of unique learning experiences geared toward youth program practitioners. The Department of Homeland Security /FEMA and the Red Cross are kicking off a nationwide series of workshops which began in Chicago, in order to introduce a resilient community initiative which focuses on education our youth in disaster preparedness. This workshop, as a component to the larger national youth preparedness movement has received considerable positive attention. This provided an opportunity for our state’s youth to become a component of its manifestation. Emergencies happen at any time and often without warning. While emergency personnel do their best to quickly respond to emergencies, it may take time for them to respond. The best way to help citizens be safe during an emergency is to ensure they are prepared in advance to sustain themselves and their families for the first 72 hours after a disaster strikes. Leading scholars in the field of preparedness education believe that children are the best envoys to bring this message home to their families.
