We place before our mind's eye what we want our hearts to remember. Barbara As I reflect on the events of one year ago, I am struck by the fact that it feels as if it all occurred yesterday. I can relate now on a visceral level to what my parents must have felt about the attack on Pearl Harbor. Based on the fact that we have been blind-sided before, there is no excuse for why we weren't the students of history that we should have been. Had we been as vigilant as history would dictate, the damage may have been avoided, or at least minimized. We need to accept the fact that the United States is not well liked in the rest of the world. It doesn't matter why those in the world would seek to do us harm, it only matters that we are prepared to meet the threat. Those of us in this country that would promote the forgiveness of the perpetrators of this atrocity, need to stand at ground zero and feel the anguish and horror of the souls lost there. Then, maybe, they would be less likely to forgive. We should never forget what has happened and we should respond accordingly. If you are a citizen of this country and you don't get a tear in your eye every time you look at Old Glory, then maybe you need to conduct a little soul searching. Those stripes are red with the blood of thousands of Americans that have died to ensure the freedoms of the rest of us. These freedoms are also extended to those that would prefer to forgive and forget when remembrance and resolution are more appropriate. Bruce I would like to say I am Proud to be a Part of this free Country. I am an a American! Erin This morning (9-11-02) the crisis intervention class in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana discussed issues surrounding 9-11. We first viewed the FEMA photo gallery on the FEMA web site and then engaged in a discussion of the feelings people have one year later, using the moving photos as a launch to our conversation. It was a productive conversation filled with many emotions, thoughts, and reactions one year later. Bryan It is true that freedom is not free and we need to keep our freedom. This is a great sorrow to the people directly involved and those who were there to help, but as an EMS provider I would have done the same thing to try and preserve life and help my fellow man. If we do not help one another out then this is truly a sad world to live in. I truly believe there is a God and we are here to help each other and if we don't then we should look into a mirror and see just what kind of person we truly are. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and the rest of this country. Pray for each other as others pray for you. Help one another and we shall conquer. God is with us as he is always.
