I get tears in my eyes each and every time I read about that horrible day or see the many heart-wrenching images. I'm a little too young to remember JFK's assassination but I will never forget that day. My best friend from Texas had just moved to Manhattan two weeks prior and I was terrified for her safety and well being. Thankfully she was safe but I still feel for her today knowing what she had to see firsthand and live through. Although it was the worst day in recent memory our country has known, I'm touched by the uplifting stories of the survivors and the special friendships and bonds that have evolved between many of the surviving families. The resilience of these people is amazing to me and I'm proud to be their fellow Americans. Laurie As the anniversary approaches, I still find it hard to believe the magnitude of what happened. I still remember my sudden urge that day to speak to my children. I called them just to hear their voices and to know they were okay and to tell them I loved them. My heart goes out to the families that never had that chance. God have mercy on the victims and their families. May we all take a second look at our families every day and give thanks and tell each other we love each other. Marge I pray for the families and friends of all those, initially referred to as "victims", later revealed to be the true martyrs and heroes of our time. We have all been transformed by the horrific events of September 11th and have all lost a portion of our innocence in the process. No one has gone untouched by the depths of hatred exposed and monstrosity revealed on that otherwise beautiful fall morning. In remembering back, the initial feelings and emotions were ones of devastation, hopelessness and complete and total despair in the character of humanity. The weeks and months which followed have come to reveal the true spirit of all of those who gave their lives that day, unselfishly and unquestioningly. This unimaginable strength infuses hope, a sense of resiliency, and a level of commitment to which the rest of us can only hope to aspire. With every passing day, true heroes were revealed. Countless individuals stepped forward, motivated by their faith and guided by their hearts and souls, to face dauntless and unenviable tasks. For all of Their efforts, we are eternally grateful. Tracy It is difficult to believe that 1 year has passed already. I feel for the survivors and their families during this tough time in their lives. But, we all, everywhere in the world, need to remember. What hurts us will make us stronger. It was a great shock to all of us, as we believe life is free in the USA. Maybe we will all realize that there is evil that lives among us, no matter where we live. But, good overcomes evil. We will be safe, secure and above all free. We must stand together as a nation and give our thanks to those who have worked so diligently, without missing a stride in cleaning up the city of New York and to all those who have donated money to the families of the victims. We will never forget. The Hardys As I was getting dressed this morning, I watched the news revisiting the awful day of 9/11. It seemed like yesterday yet, so unbelievable that it could happen in our country. I am extremely proud of how our nation came together as a powerful force to support our great country. I grew up in an age when it was easier to criticize our nation than to be proud of it. I now know what it is like to be patriotic and to love my country. My heart goes out to the families who were left behind, to the brave men and women who stood shoulder to shoulder in the rescue mission. God bless you all and God bless America!
