A Public Private Education Partnership focused on disaster preparedness
The upcoming Hurricane Season offers everyone a time to reflect and revise their disaster plans for students, educators, families and pets. One way to prepare them is by leveraging online tools like Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Ready Classroom. The website offers hurricane awareness and other disaster information in the form of lessons and interactive activities for elementary and middle school children and educators. For example, you can create disaster preparedness activities with the Puzzlemaker link to create hidden word search puzzles featuring disaster terms for your students.
The Ready Classroom was recently recognized with a 2010 BESSIE Awards from the ComputED Learning Center for its use of technology as a disaster preparedness and educational outreach tool. It was designed through a partnership with the Ready Campaign, Discovery Education and The Ad Council and is an example of a public private partnership focused on disaster preparedness.
