HAZUS was designed to be a regional loss model. It can be used to perform an analysis for a single building (e.g., in the Earthquake Model) or a portfolio of buildings, but it is important to remember that HAZUS analytical results are best interpreted in an aggregate form. Nevertheless, a HAZUS analysis for a portfolio of buildings provides information very useful in identifying the most vulnerable buildings in that portfolio. Such information is essential in priority ranking buildings for seismic retrofitting, in performing cost-benefit studies, and even in resource allocation modeling.
For additional information, refer to the HAZUS Manuals and guidance materials available from HAZUS Resources. Information for the earthquake hazard can be found in Chapter 3 of the Advanced Engineering Building Module Technical and User's Manual.
