HAZUS-MH MR3 FAQs: Earthquake Model - Hazard/Scenario Definition

What properties are required in user-supplied soil maps?

User-supplied soil maps must be in Geodatabase feature class format, not shape file format.  See Appendix K of the HAZUS User's Manual for instructions on how to convert shape-file-based hazard maps to corresponding GeoDatabase-based hazard maps that can be used with HAZUS.

The attribute requirements for user-supplied soil map properties are that at least one field is named "Type" (must be Text (1) type) and that the values in this field are mapped to HAZUS soil classes (A, B, C, D, or E).  See Appendix K of the HAZUS User's Manual for the data type and valid values for soil, liquefaction, landslide, and water depth maps.

For additional information, the HAZUS Earthquake Technical Manual, as well as other HAZUS Manuals and guidance materials are available for download from the HAZUS Resources.
