When are alternative building fragility functions used for an analysis?

In scenarios where user-supplied ground motion maps are specified in HAZUS, alternative building fragility functions are used for the analysis. These alternative functions were developed with reduced uncertainty (the beta value) to reflect the reduced ground motion uncertainty provided by the maps.  Except for the reduced uncertainty, the alternative building fragility functions parameters are same as the standard fragility function parameters.
