HAZUS-MH FAQs: Earthquake Model Analysis Parameters

What are the interpretations of damage states for buildings "slight damage through complete damage"?

Chapter 5 in the HAZUS Technical Manual describes and defines these terms for each of the building types.  From a practical standpoint, a building in slight damage state can be considered to be a "green-tagged" building.  Similarly, a building in moderate damage state can be considered to be a "yellow-tagged" building and a building in extensive or complete damage state can be considered to be a "red-tagged" building.  This information should be especially useful in determining the number of building inspectors required and the number of people requiring shelter.

For additional information, refer to the HAZUS Manuals and guidance materials at HAZUS Resources.
