Insurance Professionals and Lenders
As part of the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administers the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which is the cornerstone of the Nation's strategy for reducing the financial and physical impact of flood disasters.
Because lenders must require flood insurance for all homes located in high-risk areas that have a federally backed mortgage and because insurance agents agree to sell flood insurance to homeowners, they are both an important part of this strategy.
