Download CHECK-RAS, Version 1.4
- If you have HEC-RAS on your system, skip to step 2. HEC-RAS must be installed on your system before you can use CHECK-RAS. If you do not have HEC-RAS, please visit the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Web site to download a free copy of the program and install it on your system.
- If you have previously opened a project file in HEC-RAS, then you may skip to step 4. The HEC-RAS registry is not automatically created on the user's system when HEC-RAS is installed. To create the HEC-RAS registry, the user must open at least one HEC-RAS project from HEC-RAS. If this is not done, CHECK-RAS will not be able to find the HEC-RAS program on the user's system.
- The default installation directory for the HEC-RAS program is the "HEC" directory. However, the user may install this program elsewhere on his/her system or rename the default directory after installing the program (not recommended). If either of these actions is taken, the HEC-RAS registry will no longer match the location of the actual HEC-RAS program on the user's system. Wherever the program may be, the user must make sure that the path to the application is such that the last directory in the path is "HEC" (e.g., D:\test\test1\HEC\ras.exe). If the directory is moved from the default location, the user must open at least one project from HEC-RAS to create the program registry for the new location. If the HEC-RAS program is moved from the default location and this step is not completed, the user will not be able to use CHECK-RAS.
- Click on the links below to extract the .Zip archive(s) to a local directory (e.g., C:\temp) on your computer's hard drive.

If desired, the program can also be downloaded onto seven double-sided, high-density diskettes (1.44 MB capacity).
Disk 1 (382 KB split .Zip file)
Disk 2 (1.38 MB split .Zip file)
Disk 3 (1.38 MB split .Zip file)
Disk 4 (1.38 MB split .Zip file)
Disk 5 (1.38 MB split .Zip file)
Disk 6 (1.38 MB split .Zip file)
Disk 7 (1.38 MB split .Zip file)
- Open the .Zip archive and extract it to a local directory on your computer's hard drive. If using floppies, download all split .Zip files to the same directory on your local disk, then open the frm_cr1.zip file and extract the contents.
*NOTE: All of the CHECK-RAS files must be in the same directory for the program to install properly on your system.
- If you have a previous version of CHECK-RAS on your system, you must remove it before installing CHECK-RAS, Version 1.4. To remove the previous version, click the "Start" button from the Windows 98/NT/2000/XP taskbar, point to "Settings," and then select "Control Panel". Double-click the "Add/Remove Programs" icon, select "CHECK-RAS" from the program list, and click the "Add/Remove" button.
- Return to the directory where you extracted the .Zip files in step 5 and click on the "setup.exe" program file.
- Follow the on-screen directions to install the program. The default directory is: C:\Program Files\checkras\
- Before running the CHECK-RAS program, read and follow the instructions in Chapter 3.2, "Running CHECK-RAS for the First Time," and Chapter 3.3, "Creating a HEC-RAS Report File for Subsequent Runs," of the CHECK-RAS User's Manual. These sections of the manual provide important information about making this program work properly with the HEC-RAS program. The CHECK-RAS User's Manual is also included in the CHECK-RAS .Zip archive.
Use the CHECK-RAS "Help" menu if you have difficulty with the program. Questions not answered by the "Help" menu or suggestions for software improvements can be made on the Comment Form.
