This independent study course is intended for staff responsible for developing, updating, or reviewing local and/or tribal mitigation plans that meet the regulatory requirements found at 44 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 201.  Students will learn about the mitigation planning process, including involving stakeholders and the public, conducting a risk assessment, identifying and prioritizing mitigation actions, implementing the mitigation strategy, and updating the plan.  Plan developers will learn about the mitigation planning regulations (44 CFR Part 201) as well as FEMA’s local or tribal multi-hazard mitigation planning guidance in order to develop a hazard mitigation plan.  Plan reviewers will learn to provide recommendations and guidance to develop or update a mitigation plan in accordance with the plan requirements (44 CFR Part 201).

Plan Review

This 60 minute webinar introduces and provides a detailed overview of the new Local Mitigation Plan Review Guide which includes the Local Mitigation Plan Review Tool, and it describes how these should be used by FEMA and State plan reviewers to review Local Mitigation Plans in accordance with 44 CFR 201.6. The webinar also describes FEMA’s procedure for reviewing a local mitigation plan and briefly explains upcoming changes to other FEMA mitigation plan guidance. The training webinar is available from the FEMA Library as a slide presentation and recording. Webinar participants may also reference a comparison table showing where the requirements on the new Local Mitigation Plan Review Tool can be found on the old Crosswalk.
