The Northshore area of St. Tammany Parish is one of the fastest growing areas in Louisiana. The completion of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in the 1950s made driving to and from New Orleans much easier, resulting in a major population shift across the lake over many decades. The causeway was expanded from two lanes to four in 1969. After Katrina, the Northshore area experienced additional growth, accommodating residents from heavily damaged communities to the south.
Archbishop Hannan High SchoolAs result of the demographic realignments of communities in Greater New Orleans, the Archdiocese of New Orleans decided to reconfigure its network of schools. Because Archbishop Hannan High School was eligible for replacement, the Archdiocese decided to transfer its function from Meraux in St. Bernard Parish to Goodbee in St. Tammany Parish and to consolidate its functions with those of two other schools: Redeemer Seton School and St. Frances Xavier Cabrini School (both in Orleans Parish). This project is being considered under Alternative Arrangements because it involves a category of critical physical infrastructure and impacts wetlands.
