ATLANTA, Ga. -- Stay in touch with FEMA. That is the message for people affected by the September Georgia floods, according to disaster officials.
If an applicant changes a name, mailing address, bank account or telephone number, it is important to let FEMA know so changes can be made in the applicant's case file.
Register for assistance with FEMA; then use FEMA's Helpline to stay in touch with recovery specialists.
When calling the Helpline, applicants should have their registration number available so FEMA will have correct information.
The toll-free registration number serves as a good way to stay in touch - even after a Disaster Recovery Center closes.
Disaster applicants can receive or give information about the status of their recovery by choosing the Helpline option at 800-621-FEMA (3362). People who are hard of hearing, deaf or have speech disabilities may call the TTY number 800-462-7585. The toll-free numbers are staffed from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, until further notice. Help is available in all languages.
Recovery specialists will answer disaster-related questions and update any changing registration information.
