CHEEKTOWAGA, NY - Federal disaster officials announced today that Allegany County has been added to the Sept. 1 disaster declaration in western New York, following the storms and flooding of Aug. 8-10, 2009.

Today's amendment authorizes all categories of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Public Assistance program for state agencies, local jurisdictions and eligible nonprofit organizations in the county.

Reimbursements may cover eligible debris removal, emergency protective measures, repair, restoration, reconstruction or replacement of public facilities, roads and bridges, water facilities and other infrastructure. The program reimburses a minimum of 75 percent of eligible costs.

The addition of Allegany County brings the number of counties designated for Public Assistance to six. Allegany joins Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chenango, Cortland, and Erie counties. Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Erie counties also received approval for individual assistance for homeowners, renters and business owners.

FEMA's mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capabilities to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from and mitigate all hazards.
