ATLANTA, Ga. -- FEMA has announced that the Georgia flooding disaster declaration has been expanded to include help for local governments and more Georgia citizens.
People in Bartow, Coweta and Heard counties who have flood damage are now eligible to apply for Individual Assistance (IA). They join the previously declared counties of Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, Gwinnett, Newton, Paulding, Rockdale of, Stephens and Walker.
Now designated for FEMA's Public Assistance program are Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cobb, Douglas, Gwinnett, Paulding, Stephens and Walker counties. This program provides cost-shared funding to reimburse state agencies and local governments for repairs to damaged buildings and infrastructure, as well as clean up costs and other emergency measures.
"These additional designations show the progress we are making, with the help of GEMA and local emergency management officials to complete the flood damage assessments," said Federal Coordinating Officer Gracia Szczech. "It is important for flood survivors in these counties to register right away," added Szczech.
The application process begins with the click of a mouse or a simple telephone call. Register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 800-462-7585. The toll-free numbers are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until further notice, with help in all languages available.
Disaster assistance to individuals can include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses. Low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration may also be available for residential and business losses not covered by insurance.
