Release Number: FNF-09-017

On Friday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate toured a FEMA response and recovery center in Lake Mary, Florida. At the center, the Secretary and Administrator were joined by Representative John Mica, Representative Suzanne Kosmos, and Florida's Emergency Management Interim Director Ruben Almaguer.

During the event, both Napolitano and Fugate urged Floridians and Americans to do all they can to prepare for the 2009 hurricane season, which begins June1.

"FEMA, along with our federal, state, and local partners can only be as successful as the public is prepared," said Fugate. "Take the time now to ensure you have a plan for your family in the case of a hurricane or disaster."

Prior to touring the response center Secretary Napolitano and Administrator Fugate were briefed on recent flooding in the region.

The trip came on the tail of Administrator Fugate's first official week as FEMA Administrator, and just a few days after a hurricane preparedness video teleconference with Governors and officials from nearly 20 hurricane prone states.
