FEMA is offering Tennessee residents free advice on how to rebuild stronger and safer against storms.

If you were affected during the Aug. 28-30, 2023, storms and have questions about legal issues such as repair contracts, working with contractors, replacing wills and other legal documents, you might be eligible to get free legal counseling from a group of West Virginia lawyers who have volunteered limited legal help.

Two weeks after President Biden approved the disaster declaration for the severe storm and flooding that occurred on December 17 – 21, 2023, FEMA has approved over $1.7 million in disaster assistance to survivors.

The deadline for Tennesseans to apply for FEMA assistance after the Dec. 9, 2023, storms and tornadoes has passed but Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and FEMA continue helping survivors and communities recover from the disaster.

FEMA is opening the application period for its Summer 2024 Internship for Minority Serving Institutions (MSI), including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Tribal Universities (TCUs). This program recruits and hires students from under-represented groups in emergency management, giving them hands-on experience working with FEMA professionals. Students from all MSIs are encouraged to apply.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be sending nearly $5.2 million to the State of Maine to reimburse Maine Medical Center in Portland for various costs incurred responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

ST. CROIX, U.S. Virgin Islands – A commitment of $928.7 million to demolish and replace Roy Lester Schneider Hospital on St. Thomas marks a milestone in FEMA’s collaboration with the territory to rebuild the healthcare infrastructure across the U.S. Virgin Islands damaged during hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017.

Michigan residents in Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, Kent, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland and Wayne counties with property damage from the August 24 - 26 tornadoes, severe storms and flooding may now call or go online to apply for disaster assistance from FEMA.

The State of Maine and FEMA opened a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Franklin County. The DRC is a temporary facility established in partnership between Maine and FEMA that helps survivors from the severe storm and flooding from Dec. 17-21, 2023.
