Friday, Feb. 9 is the last day for Cook County homeowners and renters who were affected by the Sept. 17-18 severe storms and flooding to apply for FEMA assistance. Apply by 11:59 p.m. CT. More than $46 million has already been approved to help survivors recover.

FEMA announced today that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of Michigan to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding from Aug. 24-26, 2023.

People impacted by the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire are highly encouraged to submit claims for flood insurance by March 1, and no later than April 1. There is a 30-day mandatory waiting period for all new National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policies. Submitting a claim for flood insurance coverage by March 1 will help ensure coverage goes into effect before snow melt and monsoon season begin.

A little over 30 days after President Joe Biden declared a major disaster for the state of Rhode Island for the severe storms, flooding and tornado winds that occurred Sept. 10-13, 2023, $1,929,949 in federal assistance has been provided by FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to support the state’s recovery.

A state-federal Disaster Recovery Center will open at noon on Thursday, Feb. 8, at Belle Town Hall in Kanawha County to help West Virginia residents affected by the severe flooding that occurred Aug. 28-30, 2023.

A Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is now open in Lewiston. The joint DRC is a temporary facility established in partnership between Maine and FEMA that helps survivors from the severe storms and flooding from Dec. 17-21, 2023, apply for FEMA assistance, upload documents needed for their application and answer questions in person.
