ALBANY, N.Y. – Beginning Monday, Nov. 7, the hours of operation for all state and federal Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in New York will change. The new hours will be Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The facilities are closed on Sundays.
All DRCs will be closed in observance of the upcoming Veterans Day national holiday Friday, Nov. 11 and will reopen Saturday, Nov. 12 at 9:00 a.m.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and state emergency-management representatives strongly urge people adversely affected by the recent storms and flooding to register with FEMA before visiting any center. Call 800-621-3362 or log onto www.DisasterAssistance.gov to register. For people affected by both Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, FEMA requires that separate registrations be made for each.
The DRCs are staffed with disaster-recovery specialists who can provide information and answer questions about storm-related assistance, FEMA officials said.
Currently and until further notice, the following DRCs are in full operation:
In Tioga County:
Nichols Elementary School, 139 Roki Boulevard, Nichols, N.Y. 13812; and
Church of the Nazarene, 3732 Waverly Road, Owego, N.Y. 13827.
In Broome County:
Vestal Public Library, 320 Vestal Parkway East, Vestal, N.Y. 13850; and
Broome County Library, 185 Court Street, Binghamton, N.Y., 13901.
Information to have ready when registering includes the address of the damaged property, names of members of the household, a general description of the damage, the Social Security number of any family member living in the home, the extent of insurance coverage and certain other information needed to expedite the process.
