Disaster Recovery Center To Close In Ulster County

ALBANY, N.Y. – The state and federal Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in Kingston, operating from the Ulster Business Resource Center at 601 Ulster Avenue, will close Monday, October 31, at 8 p.m., according to officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

FEMA and state emergency-management representatives strongly urge people adversely affected by the recent storms and flooding to register with FEMA before visiting any center. Call 800-621-3362 or log onto www.DisasterAssistance.gov to register.

The deadlines for registering for assistance from FEMA are fast approaching, officials said. For people affected by Hurricane Irene, the final day is October 31. For those affected by Tropical Storm Lee, November 14. For people affected by both disasters, FEMA requires that separate registrations be made for each.

A number of DRCs remain open to serve the public. Those who were unable to visit the facility closing Monday can seek information and guidance at those DRCs that continue to operate in the areas designated for assistance after Tropical Storm Lee, regardless of which disaster an applicant has registered under.

These DRCs are staffed with disaster-recovery specialists who can provide information and answer questions about storm-related assistance, FEMA officials said.

Currently, all of these centers are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday until further notice.

In Tioga County: Nichols Elementary School, 139 Roki Boulevard, Nichols, N.Y. 13812;
Church of the Nazarene, 3732 Waverly Road, Owego, N.Y. 13827;

In Broome County: Johnson City Police Dept., 31 Avenue C, Johnson City, N.Y. 13790;
Vestal Public Library, 320 Vestal Parkway East, Vestal, N.Y. 13850;
Broome County Library, 185 Court Street, Binghamton, N.Y., 13901; and

In Fulton County: Gloversville Senior Citizens Service Center, 53 Church Street,
Gloversville, N.Y. 12078 (will close November 1 at 8:00 p.m.).

Information to have ready when registering includes the address of the damaged property, names of  members of the household, a general description of the damage, the Social Security number of any family member living in the home, the extent of insurance coverage and certain other information needed to expedite the process.
