FEMA Specialists Offer Rebuilding Advice

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Mitigation specialists from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be in Clinton, Southport and Tarboro to provide free rebuilding information Thursday, Oct. 20, through Tuesday, Oct. 25. Mitigation is building or rebuilding to reduce the loss of life, the loss of property and damage caused by disasters.

Advisors have suggestions and publications to help homeowners, renters and business owners protect their properties against damaging winds, floods and fires.

FEMA mitigation advisors will be available the same hours at all three locations: Thursday through Monday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mitigation measures may reduce mold and mildew and protect electrical systems, furnaces and other appliances. They also reinforce structures against high wind, flood, fire and secure personal property.

The mitigation teams will also have free reference booklets in English and Spanish, including:
