Disaster Recovery Center Opens in Williamston

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A short-term disaster recovery center will open in Williamston at noon Wednesday, Sept. 28, to help survivors with property damage and other setbacks from Hurricane Irene.

Hours for the center are Wednesday through Monday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., except Sunday, when it is closed. It will permanently close Monday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m.

Representatives from North Carolina Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other agencies will be at the center to explain assistance programs and help survivors apply for disaster aid.

There are three ways to register with FEMA for help or information regarding disaster assistance:

FEMA's temporary housing assistance and grants for public transportation expenses, medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
