Two Additional State/Federal Disaster Recovery Centers to Open Tomorrow

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico –The Government of Puerto Rico and the Federal EmergencyManagement Agency (FEMA) will open tomorrow, two additional State/Federal Disaster RecoveryCenters (DRC) in Orocovis and Ponce to support applicants which have already registered fordisaster assistance with FEMA. Eligible individuals and families may apply for assistance by calling1-800-621-3362 (FEMA), via internet at, or via mobile phone application

DRCs operating hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Sunday. The new centers will be available at the following locations:

DRC in Orocovis
Centro de Bellas Artes
Calle Antiguo Hospital
(next to court)

DRC in Ponce
Auditorio Pachin Vicens
758 Calle Paquito Montaner

The DRCs are providing disaster survivors information on disaster assistance available, low interest federal disaster loans, disaster crisis counseling, voluntary agency disaster assistance and preventive measures to mitigate future damages to property and life by federal and state governments.

On August 27, 2011, President Obama granted a federal disaster declaration making individuals and families affected by Hurricane Irene in Aguas Buenas, Arroyo, Caguas, Canóvanas, Carolina, Cayey, Cidra, Coamo, Comerío, Fajardo, Gurabo, Humacao, Jayuya, Juncos, Las Piedras, Loíza, Luquillo, Naguabo, Naranjito, Orocovis, Patillas, Ponce, Río Grande, San Juan, San Lorenzo, Trujillo Alto, Vega Baja, Vieques, and Villalba eligible for disaster assistance. This assistance may include temporary housing, home repairs and other uninsured, disaster-related necessary expenses and serious needs.

As the hurricane season continues, individuals and families should have their emergency kits and plans ready. Residents in vulnerable areas should remain aware of any hazardous situations in their communities.
