LINCOLN, Neb. -- While many Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administrative operations will be temporarily suspended in observance of Labor Day, survivors may register for disaster aid online or by telephone during the long holiday weekend.
Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) deployed by FEMA to assist Nebraska flood survivors will be closed Saturday, Sept.3, Sunday Sept. 4 and Labor Day Monday on Sept. 5. Two DRCs scheduled to open Friday in Spencer and Bellevue will resume operations Tuesday, Sept. 6.
The DRCs are operated by the state of Nebraska, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and are staffed by experts to provide information to survivors who have already registered with FEMA.
Survivors that have not already registered with FEMA are encouraged to do so online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or by calling the agency's call center, which will remain open during the Labor Day holiday, at 800-621-FEMA (3362).
Help is available in most languages. Those with speech or hearing disability may call (TTY) 800-462-7585. Persons affected by the floods also may apply for federal assistance through a web-enabled mobile device or smartphone. Visit m.fema.gov and follow the link to "apply online for federal assistance."
