Disaster Recovery Center Opens Aug. 25 in Holt County

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced today it will open a Disaster Recovery Center in Holt County on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, to help survivors of the recent flooding with their applications for federal and state disaster assistance.

The DRC will be located at the United Methodist Church, 312 E. 7th St., Mound City, Mo. 64470. The DRC will be open from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Aug. 25. After Aug. 25, the DRC will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sunday. The DRC also will be closed on Labor Day weekend, Saturday, Sept. 3; Sunday, Sept. 4; and Monday, Sept. 5, 2011.

Specialists from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be on hand to meet with storm survivors face-to-face to answer any disaster assistance questions and to help applicants complete their SBA disaster loan applications.

Disaster survivors may can also register for assistance by calling FEMA's toll-free registration line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362); online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or by smartphone at m.fema.gov. Those who have access or functional needs and use a TTY may call 1-800-462-7585 directly; individuals who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS) may call 1-800-621-3362. Multilanguage assistance also is available. Telephone registration is available daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. until further notice.

Disaster survivors in Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Holt, Lafayette and Platte counties can visit any DRC location for help with disaster assistance questions, registration or SBA loan applications. The following are currently operating DRCs in the disaster area:

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is the federal government's primary source of money for the long-term rebuilding of disaster-damaged private property. SBA helps homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private non-profit organizations fund repairs or rebuilding efforts and covers the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property. These disaster loans cover losses not fully compensated by insurance or other recoveries and do not duplicate benefits of other agencies or organizations.
