Learn About Safe Cleanup and Mitigation at Mandan High School

BISMARCK, N.D. – North Dakotans can learn about safe cleanup and hazard mitigation building techniques at a free presentation on Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. at Mandan High School,905 8th Ave. NW. The presentation is sponsored by the Morton County Extension Office.

Federal Emergency Management Agency mitigation specialists will provide information on making repairs to flood-damaged homes and buildings and ways to protect homes from future damage.

People can also learn about sump pumps, backflow valves and floor drain float plugs, mold removal and the National Flood Insurance Program. Mitigation specialists will be available to offer individual advice and valuable home improvement tips.

State and federal officials encourage those affected by the disaster to register for assistance immediately by calling: 800-621-3362 (also applies for VRS and 711-Relay users) or TTY 800-462-7585. The toll-free line is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. CDT. Individuals may also register for disaster assistance at www.disasterassistance.gov or with a smart phone at m.fema.gov.
