Disaster Recovery Center Transitioning To SBA Loan Outreach Center

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- To continue helping survivors of the spring storms, tornadoes and flooding, the disaster recovery center in Madison County is transitioning to a U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loan outreach center.

The disaster recovery center, on Hollywood Drive in Jackson, has been serving Tennesseans for a month. It will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, and will be replaced the next day by the SBA disaster loan outreach center.

The location and hours of operation for the SBA center are as follows:

Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through July 14 except for Saturday, July 9, and Sunday, July 10, when the center will be closed.

SBA and Federal Emergency Management Agency representatives will be at the center to assist visitors. Through the SBA loan program, homeowners can borrow up to $200,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters alike may be eligible for as much as $40,000 to repair or replace personal property.

Businesses of any size and private nonprofit organizations can receive up to $2 million to repair or replace real estate, machinery, equipment, inventory and other assets.

Individuals can register with FEMA or ask questions about an existing application by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. CDT. The TTY number is 800-462-7585. Or go online to www.disasterassistance.gov or through smartphone or tablet to m.fema.gov.

The registration deadline for FEMA and SBA assistance is Aug. 9, 2011.

FEMA's housing assistance and Other Needs Assistance grants for medical, dental, and funeral expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA loan officers to be considered for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses. Applicants who do not qualify for a SBA loan may be eligible to receive Other Needs Assistance grants for these items.
