CLINTON, Miss. -- When the upheaval of recent disasters creates legal issues for a survivor, the Mississippi Bar Young Lawyers Division can provide free legal assistance.
Anyone affected by the recent Mississippi disasters who doesn’t have the means to hire an attorney is eligible - if the legal issue is directly related to the disaster.
Call the Disaster Legal Services Hotline, 877-691-6185 for help. The hotline is staffed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Messages can be left on the hotline voice mail at any time.
The call will be forwarded to attorneys who can provide over-the-phone assistance. When needed, callers will be referred to other attorneys who will provide free legal representation.
Disaster-related legal issues can include:
- FEMA benefits claims.
- Insurance claims.
- Landlord-tenant issues.
- Consumer protection issues, remedies and procedures.
- Civil rights issues.
- Employment law.
- Family law.
- Real estate law.
- Wills, trusts and probate matters.
Calls to the legal services hotline are completely confidential.
