CLINTON, Miss. -- When the upheaval of recent disasters creates legal issues for a survivor, the Mississippi Bar Young Lawyers Division can provide free legal assistance.

Anyone affected by the recent Mississippi disasters who doesn’t have the means to hire an attorney is eligible - if the legal issue is directly related to the disaster.

Call the Disaster Legal Services Hotline, 877-691-6185 for help. The hotline is staffed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Messages can be left on the hotline voice mail at any time.

The call will be forwarded to attorneys who can provide over-the-phone assistance. When needed, callers will be referred to other attorneys who will provide free legal representation.

Disaster-related legal issues can include:

  • FEMA benefits claims.
  • Insurance claims.
  • Landlord-tenant issues.
  • Consumer protection issues, remedies and procedures.
  • Bankruptcy.
  • Civil rights issues.
  • Employment law.
  • Family law.
  • Real estate law.
  • Wills, trusts and probate matters.

Calls to the legal services hotline are completely confidential.

FEMA's mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.
