SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) continues its All Hazards Preparedness Campaign in supermarkets and stores throughout the Island, to advise people on how to rebuild by implementing mitigation measures to prevent future damages.  In July 2010, FEMA began this Campaign in hardware stores where more than 13,698 persons have been reached.   

Partnering with local supermarkets and stores, FEMA will provide an opportunity for customers to talk face-to-face with experienced personnel about: building requirements, regulations, and preventive measures to mitigate damages to property and life.  FEMA is emphasizing alertness among communities that have been affected by natural disasters to be ready for all types of emergencies.

“We are encouraging families and individuals to be alert, and to be prepared in a proactive way,” said Federal Coordinating Officer Justo Hernandez.  “If you are considering improving your home, we will offer you specialized guidance on how to do it better.”

During September 7 - 9, FEMA Mitigation Information booths will be available at the following stores, from  9 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

On June 24, 2010, President Obama ordered Federal aid for Infrastructure damages, after the May 26-31, 2010 storms and flooding event, to supplement local recovery efforts in Arecibo, Barranquitas, Coamo, Corozal, Dorado, Naranjito, Orocovis, Utuado, Vega Alta, and Vega Baja. These municipalities, as well as some eligible local government agencies and certain private nonprofit organizations, are eligible to apply for Public Assistance for damages to their Infrastructure.
