BEAVER, W. Va. -- Officials working on the June storm recovery in West Virginia remind residents with storm-related losses to register for disaster assistance by Monday, Aug. 23, 2010 and to stay in touch through toll-free phone lines.
Specialists with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are available every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. to help applicants register and keep up with the progress on their requests for help. The phone number is 800-621-FEMA (3362).
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Customer Service number is 1-800-659-2955 to discuss low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters and business owners. FEMA applicants who received SBA applications should complete and return them to SBA by August 23 in order to continue the financial assistance process. If SBA is not able to approve a loan for a homeowner or renter, they will be referred back to FEMA for any possible grant assistance.
Here are some of the reasons to call FEMA:
- Report insurance settlements
- Give change of address or new phone number
- Ask questions about disaster-related assistance
- Track the progress of your application
- Ask questions about the inspection process
- Learn what you can do if you don’t get all the help you requested
Those with hearing or speech impairment may call FEMA at TTY 800-462-7585. Residents can also register for disaster assistance and check the status of applications online at www.disasterassistance.gov. The FEMA Faxline is 800-827-8112 and is available around the clock to receive documents.
FEMA’s mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards
