FEMA Open This Weekend For Last-Minute Registrations;

Portsmouth, N.H. -- With only days left until the Monday July 12 disaster registration window closes, recovery officials made a final appeal to residents with uninsured disaster-related damage or loss in the seven disaster-designated Commonwealth counties to register for assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Officials said FEMA toll-free registration lines and its dedicated internet site will be available at regular hours throughout the weekend period for last-minute applicants, continuing through close-of-business, 10 p.m. (EDT) Monday.

  • Toll-free telephone registration takes place from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily at either 800-621-FEMA (3362) or 800-462-7585 (TTY) for people with speech or hearing disabilities. Multilingual operators are available; and
  • Online registration is available 24/7 at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.

The Monday, July 12 close-of-business deadline affects homeowners, renters and business owners in Bristol, Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk and Worcester counties.

Available assistance may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for renters, homeowners and businesses of all sizes to cover uncompensated property losses, and other programs that help meet eligible disaster-related needs.

July 12 is also the deadline for homeowners, renters and businesses to return applications to the SBA for low-interest disaster loans to cover uninsured damages to real and personal property. Officials urge homeowners and renters who have registered with FEMA and received an SBA disaster home loan application to complete the form and return it even if they are not seeking a loan. Submitting the SBA disaster home loan application by the deadline is required before applicants can be considered for some types of FEMA aid. 

For answers to questions about disaster loan applications, the SBA Customer Service Center can be reached at 800-659-2955, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from   9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Anyone with disaster-related damages can apply for low-interest loans at the SBA's secure website, https://DisasterLoan.sba.gov/ela/. Online SBA assistance is available at www.sba.gov/services/DisasterAssistance or email DisasterCustomerService@sba.gov.
