Community Flood Preparedness Meeting to be Held in Grand Forks

DENVER - Officials today announced a town hall meeting in Grand Forks to help citizens learn more about the 2010 flood outlook, flood insurance, and flood preparation.  The meeting is open to the public and will provide citizens the opportunity to hear presentations about what they can be doing now to prepare for potential flooding and to ask questions about flood insurance and preparedness. The meeting is scheduled for March 3 from 6:30-8:00pm at the Alerus Center.

These town hall meetings are part of a series of outreach and education efforts the North Dakota Department of emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are conducting to help residents prepare for potential spring flooding in 2010.

The North Dakota Department of Emergency Services provides 24/7 emergency communications and resource coordination with more than 50 lead and support agencies, private enterprise, and voluntary organizations to assist local jurisdictions in disaster and emergency response activities. It administers federal disaster recovery programs and the Homeland Security Grant Program.

FEMA leads and supports the nation in a risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation, to reduce the loss of life and property and protect the nation from all hazards including natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters.
