S.D. Office of Emergency Management and FEMA Encourage Flood Preparedness

Public Meetings Scheduled for Eight S.D. Communities

DENVER - Officials will hold town hall meetings in eight South Dakota communities February 22-26 to help citizens learn more about the 2010 flood outlook, flood insurance, and flood preparation.  These town hall meetings are open to the public and will provide citizens the opportunity to hear from formal presentations about what they can be doing now to prepare for potential flooding, and also allow for questions to be answered.

The town hall schedule is as follows: (All meetings scheduled for 7:00-9:00 p.m.)

These town hall meetings are part of a series of outreach and education efforts the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are conducting to help residents prepare for potential spring flooding in 2010.

FEMA leads and supports the nation in a risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation, to reduce the loss of life and property and protect the nation from all hazards including natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters.
