ATLANTA, Ga. -- Monday, Nov. 23, is the final day to apply for federal grants and low-interest disaster recovery loans related to September’s severe flooding in Georgia. Disaster recovery officials urge flood survivors to register for federal aid now, if they haven’t already.

“This is your last chance to seek federal help for September’s floods,” said Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) Director Charley English. “Don’t wonder if you’re eligible. Register to find out for sure.”

Flood survivors can apply for federal help by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362); TTY: 800-462-7585. Phone lines are open Sunday and Monday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET. Help is available in all languages. Registrations also are accepted online until midnight Monday at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.

Applications for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, which are available to homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes, also must be postmarked by Monday if returned by mail. Online loan applications will be accepted through the filing deadline of Monday, Nov. 23, at disasterloan.sba.gov/ela/.

Flood survivors who received a loan application from the SBA are strongly encouraged to fill it out and return it by Monday—even if they feel they can’t afford a loan. Returning the application continues the financial aid process. Homeowners and renters may be referred back to FEMA for further grant assistance.

To date, more than 27,000 families, individuals and businesses have registered with FEMA. More than $93 million in grants and low-interest loans have been provided.

“We want to provide every dollar of grant assistance flood survivors are eligible for,” said Gracia Szczech, head of FEMA flood recovery in Georgia. “Your first step is to call FEMA or go online to register, but you must do it by Monday.”

People with questions about disaster loans can call the SBA Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 or TTY: 800-877-8339 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET or send an email to disastercustomerservice@sba.gov or visit www.sba.gov.

FEMA’s mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.
