CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. -- State/FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers in Gowanda and Silver Creek are changing hours of operation, state and federal disaster recovery officials said today.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the New York State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) announced the new hours at both centers, starting Tuesday, Sept. 29, are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, and closed on Sundays.

The centers are located at:

Gowanda Fire Hall
230 Aldrich St.

Silver Creek, NY 14136

Recovery officials continue to urge all survivors of the severe storms and flooding of Aug. 8-10 in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, and Erie counties to register for disaster assistance with FEMA. They encourage registration regardless if the applicant:

  • has insurance and has made repairs
  • experienced personal losses
  • filed a claim with the National Flood Insurance Program.

"Some residents may assume that accepting assistance may shortchange their neighbors," said Federal Coordinating Officer Jaime E. Forero. "That's incorrect. Let me emphasize that assistance is available to ALL who qualify."

Help is always just a phone call or mouse click away. elp Residents can apply or follow up on their applications by going online to www.disasterassistance.gov, or by calling 1-800-621-3362 or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech- and hearing-impaired. Both numbers are available daily from 7 a.m. - 1 a.m.

FEMA's mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capabilities to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from and mitigate all hazards.
