JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri -- More than $2 million in federal disaster assistance has been approved for individuals and households in Missouri since President Obama issued a major disaster declaration three weeks ago. The declaration is a result of severe storms, tornadoes and flooding May 8 - 16.
As of Thursday, the latest figures were:
- 1,669 individuals have registered for disaster assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA);
- More than $1.88 million has been approved for temporary housing and home repairs; and
- More than $177,000 in Other Needs Assistance has been approved for personal property loss, medical costs and other serious disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance.
Registration is available at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling toll-free 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), (TTY 1-800-462-7585) from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week until further notice. The registration deadline is August 17.
Disaster Unemployment Assistance may be available to eligible residents if their employment was lost or interrupted. The deadline for filing claims is July 23. For information about filing a claim, residents should call the Missouri Department of Labor's Division of Employment Security at 1-800-788-4002.
Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) are now open in four locations. Regular hours for DRCs are 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday - Friday, and Saturday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. until further notice. DRCs are open to all Missouri residents regardless of what county they reside in.

Another DRC will open for 6 days beginning Monday, July 13. Hours for the center will be: Monday, July 13 from 1 - 7 p.m., Tuesday thru Friday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 18 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday will be the last day of business for the center. THE DRC address is:

DRC services include checking the status of a claim, getting answers to questions about the recovery status and reviewing information FEMA needs to process an individual's claim. Recovery specialists also can supply contacts for other programs that may be available for further assistance.
In addition, Customer Service Representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will be at the centers to answer questions about the SBA's low-interest disaster loan program for homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private non-profit organizations. These loans are to repair or replace real estate and/or personal property damaged by the sever storms in May.
Individual assistance is available in the following counties: Adair, Barry, Barton, Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Dent, Douglas, Greene, Howell, Iron, Jasper, Jefferson, Laclede, Lawrence, Madison, Newton, Ozark, Polk, Reynolds, Ripley, St. Francois, Shannon, Texas, Washington, and Webster counties.
