MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Residents of Covington, Geneva and Houston counties affected by the March 25 - April 3 storms have about two weeks left to register for federal disaster assistance.
The deadline to register for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) assistance is July 1, 2009.
Those who have not yet registered are urged to call the FEMA Helpline and registration number, 800-621-FEMA (3362). The TTY number for the speech- and hearing-impaired is 800-462-7585. Lines are open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Online registration is available at www.disasterassistance.gov.
As of close of business June 13, there were 1,223 individuals registered for federal assistance in the three declared counties and more than $1.87 million had been approved through FEMA's individual and households program. More than $493,700 had been approved in low-interest disaster loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration.
