BISMARCK, N.D. -- Federal and State disaster officials announced today that the Disaster Recovery Center in Fargo has transitioned to a U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC) beginning on Monday, June 1. The North Dakota Department of Emergency Services (NDDES), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and SBA officials opened up the DRC to provide one-stop, face-to-face assistance and disaster information to individuals and businesses who suffered damage as a result of the recent flooding.
"At this stage of the recovery process, the emphasis for assistance is to meet the long-term needs of victims," said NDDES Deputy Director Greg Wilz. "We believe the transition of the Disaster Recovery Center to an SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Center will better meet the current needs of Fargo area residents."
"Just because the Fargo Disaster Recovery Center has closed does not mean FEMA is leaving," said FEMA's Federal Coordinating Officer Justo "Tito" Hernandez. "We will be here as long as it takes. If you have not registered yet, or have questions about your application or our programs, call us at 1-800-621-FEMA or TTY 1-800-462-7585, or go online at www.disasterassistance.gov.". Operators are available from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Central time daily (6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Mountain time).
After registering for disaster assistance with FEMA, individuals and business owners were able to visit the center to obtain information about the types of disaster assistance available from FEMA, SBA, the State Department of Social Services and other agencies.
To assist people in filling out their low-interest disaster loan applications, the SBA will continue to have loan officers at the Cass County Courthouse Annex at 1010 2nd Avenue South in Fargo, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday until June 5.
Beginning Monday, June 8, the SBA DLOC will move to its new location at 657 2nd Avenue North, Room 218, Fargo, North Dakota. The DLOC will continue to be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The DLOC will close June 18 at 4:30 p.m.
At the Fargo Disaster Loan Outreach Center, SBA customer service representatives will continue to issue loan applications, answer questions about SBA's disaster loan program, explain the application process, help each individual complete their application and close their approved disaster loans.
Low interest disaster loans from SBA are available to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private, non-profit organizations. Disaster loans from SBA are the primary source of funds for repairing and rebuilding disaster damaged private property.
Informational materials will also be available on FEMA's Individual and Household Program and the Hazard Mitigation Program.
