HONOLULU, Hawaii -- Residents in the City and County of Honolulu who sustained losses or damage from the severe storms and flooding Dec. 10-16 are urged to register for disaster assistance by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) tele-registration number, 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) or for the hearing or speech impaired TTY 1-800-462-7585. On line registration is available at www.disasterassistance.gov.
Under the disaster declaration effective Jan. 5, 2009 federal funding and services are available to affected individuals in the City and County of Honolulu. The assistance, to be coordinated by FEMA, can include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses. Low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) also will be available to cover residential and business losses not fully compensated by insurance.
The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time Monday through Sunday until further notice.
