SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Recovery officials remind individuals living or working in the municipalities of Naguabo and Las Piedras, that the deadline to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is Thursday, December 11, 2008. Individuals may be eligible if they lost wages as a result of the September 21 ? October 3, 2008 flooding.
DUA is designed to help individuals who live or work in a declared municipality who may have lost income as a result of the disaster, including farmers, self-employed workers or others who are normally ineligible for unemployment benefits.
The benefits are administered by the same procedures as the regular state unemployment program.? Unemployed persons should go to the nearest Puerto Rico Department of Labor and Human Resources office.
