SAN JUAN, PR -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency's toll-free registration helpline will change its operations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, starting on Monday, December 8, 2008.
Puerto Rico residents who were affected by the September 21 - October 3 severe storms and flooding are encouraged to register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) - use option 2 for Spanish (TTY 800-462-7585) - or by going online at www.FEMA.gov.
Individuals who have already registered with FEMA can also call the helpline with questions about their application. Applicants can also access the website www.FEMA.gov any time to register for disaster assistance, check their application status and find out ways to protect their families from future disaster damage.
Thursday, January 15, 2009 is the new deadline to apply for disaster recovery assistance with FEMA.
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
