Disaster Recovery Centers Now Closed On Sundays

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are announcing schedule changes for the disaster recovery centers (DRCs). All DRCs will be closed on Sundays, beginning this Sunday, October 19. New DRC hours: Monday thru Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., starting Monday, October 20.

The following disaster recovery center locations will be open until future notice:

  • LaPorte Parks and Recreation Dept., 250 Pine Lake Ave.,
    Open Monday - Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. CLOSED SUNDAYS.

  • Manuszczak Appliance Store, 9450 Calumet Ave., Munster 46321
    Open Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., CLOSED SUNDAYS.

  • Ivy Tech Community College, 1440 East 35th Ave., Gary 46409
    Open Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., CLOSED SUNDAYS.

  • Valparaiso Fire Dept. #2, 2605 Cumberland Drive, Valparaiso 46383
    Open Monday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., CLOSED SUNDAYS.

Homeowners, renters and business owners affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred between Sept. 12 and Oct. 6 are urged to apply for assistance with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or logging on to www.fema.gov.  Those with hearing or speech impairments may call TTY 1-800-462-7585. The FEMA phone lines are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with multilingual phone operators available at all times. 

All residents are also encouraged to get involved with the recovery by helping spread the word about available assistance. Tell your neighbor.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
