ATLANTA, Ga. -- Families and individuals in Hinds County, who suffered damage from the severe storms and tornadoes of April 4, have one more week to register for disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The deadline is Monday, July 28.
FEMA and MEMA officials also remind applicants that even if they have insurance, there are things insurance does not fully cover. While federal disaster aid does not cover insurance deductibles, if you were underinsured, it could help with items not covered by insurance.
To apply with FEMA, dial toll-free 800-621-FEMA (3362). The hearing or speech impaired should call TTY 800-462-7585. Applicants with questions about their claims also can use the FEMA helpline, which is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Register online anytime at www.fema.gov.
July 28 also is the deadline for homeowners, renters, businesses of any size and nonprofit organizations to submit loan applications to the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA). While no one is required to take out a low-interest SBA loan, completing and returning the SBA application is a key part of the FEMA application process.
