WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Garry L. Briese is joining the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as Regional Administrator for Region VIII, FEMA Administrator David Paulison announced.
Mr. Briese will be responsible for coordinating FEMA mitigation, preparedness and disaster response and recovery activities in Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming.
"Garry is an effective, collaborative leader who uses communications, relationship building, facilitation and political skills to achieve results.? His broad background in emergency management and homeland security will benefit Region VIII and FEMA as a whole," Paulison said.
Mr. Briese served as executive director of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Fairfax, Va., for more than 20 years.? As the senior executive, he was responsible for the organizational vision, development and implementation of the strategic plan, as well as leading partnership initiatives and coordinating public and governmental communications efforts. ?
FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
