Disaster Recovery Centers Closing In Butler And Cowley Counties

WICHITA, Kan. -- The Butler County Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) located at 205 W. Central, El Dorado, and the Cowley County DRC located at 1407 Wheat Rd., Winfield, will close Friday, Aug. 10, at 6 p.m.

"Closing these recovery centers does not mean we are closing down registrations for disaster assistance in Butler and Cowley counties," said Michael L. Karl, federal coordinating officer.  The registration deadline for those affected by the severe storms and flooding from June 26 to July 25 is Sept. 4.

"Homeowners, renters and business owners in any of the 23 counties designated for Individual Assistance can still register with FEMA by phone or on the Internet," Angee Morgan, state coordinating officer said.

The counties are: Allen, Anderson, Bourbon, Butler, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Coffey, Cowley, Crawford, Edwards, Elk, Franklin, Greenwood, Harper, Labette, Linn, Miami, Montgomery, Neosho, Osage, Pawnee, Wilson and Woodson.

FEMA programs available to eligible applicants include funding for temporary disaster housing assistance and grants for serious disaster-related needs and expenses not covered by insurance or assistance programs.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low interest disaster loans can help homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private non-profit organizations pay for their disaster losses. They also will meet with applicants one-on-one and assist them in filling out their loan applications.
